AQUEFEST HIGHLIGHTS

11: ELIAS & HART Klezmer tunes wake up the day!

11:45 CLEARWATER WALKABOUT CHORUS Founded in 1984 by folk music legend Pete Seeger, the Walkabout Chorus is chartered member and supporter of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and a true "people's chorus"--made up of folks who love to sing and work hard at making good music.

Noon: ANNIE AND THE NATURAL WONDER BAND Annie and her husband Safari Bob are back with original songs about the wonders of nature. They have performed all over the world--from the mountain tops of Swizterland to the Caribbean coral reefs. In the Big Apple, the NWB has played to roaring crowds at Avery Fischer Hall, in Central Park, Battery Park and The Bronx Zoo.

1: THE WHISTLING WOLVES - Hot tunes, back porch breakdowns, sweet waltzes, snappy cakewalks, jug band blues and weepy ballads – The Wolves feature the tasty harmonica, uke and bass singing of TRIP HENDERSON, the skillful pickin’ and singing of SPIFF WIEGAND on vocals, banjo, mandolin and guitar; and blue-eyed soulman ERNIE VEGA singing, playing guitar and mandolin. Noted to be "the best harmonica-ukulele-fiddle-guitar-whistling-banjo-jaw harp-mandolin-bass-jug-vocal harmony group with a few original songs thrown into the mix around "

2: THE FAIR HAIRED TINKERS Celebrate the Irish workers who built the Aqueduct tunnel with Irish fiddle tunes by Eugene Bender and friends.

2:30 SOUTH COUNTY Born on the banks of the Hudson River and out of the ashes of the roots rock group, Whiskey Logic, SOUTH COUNTY blends rockabilly, country and blues in their own unique brand of super-charged Americana. Centered around a homemade washtub bass and a drum kit consisting in part of a wooden crate and tin cans, SOUTH COUNTY modernizes old time music for the new millennia. Guitars, harmonica, banjo, mandolin musical saw, glockenspiel, pan whistle and vocal harmonies all add to their bouillabaisse of sound. Described as “barrelhouse music with contagious energy” and “a rollicking mess of a good time”, you’d be hard pressed to find a group of people having more fun with live music than SOUTH COUNTY and their fans.

3: BLUES MOTHERS Founded in the friendship of a few women, the BluesMothers harmonize on originals and play inspired arrangements of blues, jazz, rock, and folky pop ranging from Yip Harburg to Jimi Hendrix. The band features Hope Berkeley (harmonica and vocals), Joan Indig (bass and vocals), Irene Maher (guitar and vocals), Jenny Murphy (lead vocals), Pam Sklar (flute), Gilad Ben Zvi (guitar), and Bill Reeve (drums).
